Jon Gjesme (born in Norway 1967) has been a soloist with most of the norwegian orchestras and some of the leading orchestras in the Nordic countries and USA.

As a soloist he has worked together with conductors like Paavo Berglund, Rafael Frubeck de Burgos and Daniel Harding.

In his studies he got a lot of inspiration from playing for great musiscians like Isaac Stern, Sandor Vegh and Norbert Brainin.

Jon was Norway's representative in the Nordic soloist biennale in Finland in 1991. He also won the 1st prize in the Schubert Club Competition in St Paul, USA in 1991 and the Minnesota Orchestras Young Artist Competition 1992.

 

He has 20 years of experience as a concertmaster in The Royal Danish Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and Copenhagen Phil.

He has been leading projects with The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, the Trondheim Soloists in addition to projects with his own orchestras.

Beeing an active chamber musiscian he has recorded several chamber music cd's and the latest one is Ravel and Schumann string quartets with The Poseidon Quartet.  Jon Gjesme is playing on a Stradivarius from 1737.
